Wetland stewardship

Human activities have led to a significant decrease in New Zealand’s wetlands. While many people would like to see wetlands in a healthier state, taking action has proven challenging for wetland users. Led by Corinne Bataille, University of Canterbury, this project explores the perspectives that different wetland user groups have on managing and protecting wetlands, and their constraints on practicing wetland stewardship. By better understanding the diversity of such perspectives and constraints, we wish to find opportunities for establishing wetland stewardship that accounts both for ecosystem health and the different ways that people wish to wetland ecosystems.
